- The latest update for “Wreckfest 2” expands the game with four new tracks, including the return of “Deathloop”.
- In addition, three new vehicles are available, two of which are already known from the previous game.
- Custom liveries can now be shared online with other players.
- The update introduces the two new game modes “Demolition Derby” and “Chase”.
- Initial hints about upcoming modding tools have also been provided.
The focus of the ninth Early Access update is a revised version of the fan-favorite “Deathloop” track from the original game. It now contains not just one, but two consecutive loops, creating an especially high level of chaos. The expansion is a welcome addition, as the previous Early Access tracks lacked unusual layouts.
Alternatively, the separate “Double Cross” layout is available. In this variant, the loops are removed; instead, players have to navigate intersections and banked turns.
“Deathloop 2” is joined by the new, muddy location “Hogtown”, which is available both in a Demolition Derby configuration and as an oval track.
The update also introduces two new game modes. In the classic Demolition Derby, players compete against each other in an arena until only one vehicle remains. Since there are no respawns, a player is eliminated as soon as their vehicle is destroyed.
In the new “Chase” mode, the objective is instead to reach the finish line without being destroyed by the opponents pursuing you directly. In multiplayer, participants are divided into the two teams “Runner” and “Chaser”. In single-player, bots are added to the starting grid.
Three new vehicles have also been introduced, including several familiar models. “Blade”, inspired by a third-generation Chevrolet Camaro IROC, and “Hammerhead”, a replica of a Volvo 240 Estate, return from the original “Wreckfest”.
The Hatchback, on the other hand, is new to “Wreckfest 2” and bears similarities to a Ford Focus. Although Bugbear describes the vehicle as a “90s hot hatch”, its appearance is more reminiscent of a second-generation Focus from the 2000s.
One of the most frequently requested features is now available: custom liveries created with the “Crap It” tool can now be shared online with other players.
However, this is only the beginning of the customization options planned for “Wreckfest 2”. Bugbear has indicated that comprehensive modding support should be available “soon”. The trailer already provides a first impression of the planned tools for creating custom tracks. The offering appears to be versatile and is intended to provide options such as modifying the terrain or adding numerous loops to race tracks.
In addition to the new content, the update includes numerous improvements to handling, damage modeling, artificial intelligence behavior, audio output and technical optimization.
