Gegen Ende des letzten Monats hat Project Motor Racing sein kostenpflichtiges DLC-Paket „Japanese GT500” aus dem Verkauf genommen. Alle früheren offiziellen Beiträge in den sozialen Medien sowie Verweise auf der Website wurden ebenfalls gelöscht.
Dieser Schritt erfolgte ohne Vorwarnung. Einen Tag später folgte eine vage Erklärung: „Wir halten dies für die verantwortungsvolle Vorgehensweise, während die Gespräche in gutem Glauben fortgesetzt werden.“ Weitere Informationen wurden nicht bereitgestellt, wobei davon auszugehen ist, dass es sich um einen Streit im Zusammenhang mit Lizenzen handelt.
Am 4. Mai 2026, nach einer Phase der Serverwartung für das von Straight4 Studios entwickelte Sim-Racing-Spiel, wurden die digitalen Stores aktualisiert.
Laut dem PlayStation Store wurde der Name des Inhalts beispielsweise von „Japanese GT500 DLC“ in „Japanese Prototypes DLC“ geändert.
Insbesondere wurden die Suffixe „GT500” und „JGTC” aus den Namen der einzelnen Fahrzeuge entfernt (eine vollständige Liste ist unten zu finden). Diese wurden durch „JP1” bzw. „JP2” ersetzt. Seltsamerweise wurde die Toyota Supra JP2 aus dem Jahr 2002 auf die Spezifikation von 2003 umgestellt.
Ansonsten geht man davon aus, dass alle Fahrzeuge, Lackierungen und die Takimiya-Rennstrecke (die vom Austragungsort in Okayama inspiriert wurde) unverändert bleiben und die Fahrzeuge weiterhin offiziell lizenziert sind.
GT500 ist die Bezeichnung der Königsklasse der japanischen Motorsportmeisterschaft Super GT, in der diese Fahrzeuge antreten. Vor der Namensänderung im Jahr 2005 war sie als „All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship“, kurz JGTC, bekannt.
Das DLC-Paket enthält kein offizielles „Super GT“-Branding und nun wurden auch die Klassenbezeichnungen und Abkürzungen entfernt. Zum Zeitpunkt der Veröffentlichung lag keine Stellungnahme von Straight4 Studios vor. Es ist noch unklar, wann der Inhalt wieder zum Verkauf angeboten wird, aber dies wird in Kürze erwartet.
