The release of Version 0.8 of Assetto Corsa EVO is drawing near. Developer Kunos Simulazioni has unveiled three new vehicles that will expand the game alongside the previously announced Kyalami circuit.
The Italian studio has provided precise details about the content included in the latest update: two variants of the KTM X-Bow sports car (GT4 and GT2), as well as the Volkswagen Golf R Mk.8 hot hatch, will expand the vehicle roster.
Further adjustments are also being made behind the scenes. These include the ability to create custom liveries, use modified vehicles online, and improvements to graphics and physics.
New Vehicles
KTM X-Bow GT2
Austrian manufacturer KTM is bringing the GT2 and GT4 racing versions of its X-Bow to the game; both were already featured in the predecessor, „Assetto Corsa Competizione“.
The GT2 class is aimed at so-called „gentleman drivers“, generally wealthy amateur racers who want to compete in races with high-performance sports cars without being exposed to the high aerodynamic loads of a GT3 vehicle. A special feature of the GT2 European Series is that the KTM is powered by a five-cylinder engine derived from the production Audi RS3, producing around 600 bhp.
KTM X-Bow GT4
The GT4 counterpart is less powerful and is powered by a four-cylinder Audi engine producing over 400 bhp. The GT4 category is designed as a Pro-Am class and is intended to help younger, up-and-coming drivers enter the top levels of sports car racing before moving up to the GT3 class. The highly successful GT4 European Series showcases these production-based race cars at their best.
The KTM X-Bow thus joins the growing GT4 class in Assetto Corsa EVO, which already includes the Audi R8 LMS GT4 Evo and the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport.
Volkswagen Golf R Mk.8
The Volkswagen Golf R Mk.8 adds a high-performance all-wheel-drive version of the popular Wolfsburg brand’s hot hatch to the game.
AC EVO, a model that enjoys a certain degree of notoriety among both tuning enthusiasts and criminals, allows players to legally push the 330 bhp four-cylinder to its limits—including its characteristic DSG shifting sounds.
VR Improvements
In addition to the new vehicles and the Kyalami circuit, Kunos has confirmed that there will be a „major step forward for the VR implementation“. This includes support for foveated rendering, as well as several scalable performance options for users to experiment with.
Foveated rendering essentially reduces the level of detail in the peripheral areas of the field of view, while the area of focus—that is, the point the player is looking at—is displayed with high sharpness. This helps ensure stable frame rates while driving.
Mods Allowed in Multiplayer Mode
Version 0.7 of Assetto Corsa EVO introduced an initial, still basic modding system, which will be expanded further in Version 0.8. Players will be able to make their modifications available online, while server administrators will receive new tools to ensure fairness and manage both entry lists and starting orders.
Multiplayer stability will also be improved. Among other things, issues with game crashes when joining a server will be fixed.
Graphics and Physics Updates
In Version 0.8, players can benefit from improved graphics performance thanks to „enhanced VRAM analysis“. In addition, „supersampling and an improved windshield representation“ have been implemented.
Alongside dynamic track maps, the game’s road temperature model in particular has been revised, meaning players can expect „more consistent development of grip“ in the future.
The rear-wheel steering and brake assistance systems have also been optimized, which should largely prevent excessive smoke generation in the future.
At present, Kunos has not yet announced a release date for Version 0.8. As soon as a date is confirmed, we will inform you immediately.
