Hardware | Trak Racer acquired by Corsair, the owners of Fanatec

Australian manufacturer and distributor of sim racing equipment Trak Racer has been acquired by Corsair. The company will complement Fanatec's simulation portfolio in the future.

With the acquisition of Trak Racer, US gaming hardware company Corsair is expanding its involvement in the sim racing sector. The Australian company will be integrated into the existing portfolio alongside Fanatec.

Trak Racer was founded by Matt Sten in 2008. Over the years, the company expanded its offerings from cockpits to seats and wheel stands, as well as prototypes of wheel bases for a time.

One of its best-known products is the TRX cockpit. Without the use of tools, it can be converted from a formula seating position to a more upright GT configuration. It is also licensed as an official product of the Alpine Racing Formula 1 team.

At the SimRacing Expo Charlotte at the beginning of this year, Matt Sten presented numerous world premieres. These included cockpits designed after Porsche, Aston Martin F1 and Hot Wheels, a truck seat, and a motorcycle simulator for home use. The latter was developed in collaboration with RevZED and attracted considerable interest as a special highlight of the trade show.

“Trak Racer ideally complements Corsair's brand portfolio as an addition to Fanatec, the leading provider of sim racing hardware,” the company explained.

In 2024, Corsair had already acquired German manufacturer Fanatec, which produces steering wheels, pedals and other sim racing accessories. The acquisition was preceded by a lengthy preparation process, during which company founder Jackermeier left the company.

In its statement, Corsair clearly distinguishes the areas of responsibility of the two brands: While Fanatec focuses on electronic hardware, Trak Racer concentrates on the physical simulator sector. This will also include flight simulation in the future; a cockpit with an Airbus design is already in preparation.

It remains unclear at present what impact the acquisition will have on Fanatec's existing cockpit range and on Trak Racer's electronics plans. Among other things, Trak Racer is currently developing an Alpine F1 steering wheel.

“Trak Racer significantly expands Fanatec's sim racing offering and brings an extensive portfolio of cockpits and accessories, as well as a committed and loyal community. We are delighted to welcome them to the Fanatec family,” said Thi La, Chief Executive Officer of Corsair.

Matt Sten, founder of Trak Racer, will take on the position of Chief Technology Officer for Sim Solutions at Corsair. He said: “Joining Corsair and Fanatec gives Trak Racer the opportunity to reach significantly more sim racing enthusiasts more quickly than would have been possible on our own.”

Sten continued: “Corsair's global distribution and retail infrastructure, combined with Fanatec's technical expertise and product portfolio, will enable us to make Trak Racer products available to a much larger audience. At the same time, we remain committed to the community that has played a major role in building this brand.”

According to the company, there will be no changes for existing Trak Racer customers. Products, warranty services, customer support and the commitment of the Trak Racer team are all expected to remain unchanged.
