The second major update for Gran Turismo 7 is just around the corner, and hints about these three new vehicles have already been given. As usual, series producer Kazunori Yamauchi posted an image of three camouflaged vehicles on social media.
Yangwang U9
BYD Company is the world's most prolific manufacturer of electric vehicles and has rapidly become an omnipresent automotive brand in numerous global markets. Although the Yangwang division has been less successful in terms of sales, it nevertheless enjoys a high level of recognition and seems to be designing vehicles to cater to demand on social media. These vehicles could be described as “meme cars.”
The models shown are the U8 SUV, which can also be used as a boat, and the U9. In a particular configuration, the U9 achieved a lap time of 7 minutes and 17.9 seconds on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. In another configuration, it became the world's fastest production vehicle at a speed of 309 mph. It is also capable of jumping over speed bumps and potholes.
Whether these vehicles will sell like hotcakes is questionable, but they are nevertheless an internet sensation that serves as a figurehead for the Chinese automotive industry. In Gran Turismo 7, a track-focused version with a large rear wing is presented. It would not be surprising if it could be modified in GT Auto to turn the vehicle into the record holder for top speed.
Another Porsche 911
The second vehicle represents an entirely different theme. Its silhouette is clear and unmistakable, yet its exact identity is extremely ambiguous. A Porsche 911 from the 964 generation already represents a broad category that forms almost its own universe within motorsport. The challenge lies in recognizing the shape; determining the exact variant, however, is considerably more difficult.
It could be a classic Turbo, a lighter version, or even a reinterpretation by RUF Automobile, whose recent connection to the brand adds further intrigue. This ambiguity is not a shortcoming but a stylistic device that demands closer inspection, encourages discussion, and builds anticipation.
First-generation Renault Twingo
The latest fourth-generation Renault Twingo is a compact electric vehicle with retro design elements. The model that inspired this revival was introduced in 1992 and quickly brought Patrick Le Quément's elegant style to the streets of Paris.
Small, cute, fun, and affordable, this vehicle was produced over a period of 20 years. More than two million examples made their way onto the roads, which is remarkable given that it was never offered in a right-hand-drive version.
Following the example of models such as the Fiat Panda, Gran Turismo is fond of including historic road cars, and for Renault, this original Twingo is an essential part of its heritage.
