Project Motor Racing introduces a completely new track. Strictly speaking, it is more of a test facility, offering not just one but a total of six drivable variants.
Following initial teasers on social media, it was announced that starting tomorrow, July 9, a test center will be available free of charge via the in-game ModHub for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S players.
Designed by Straight4 Studios and located in Italy, the track is reminiscent in parts of the “Complex String” test track from “Gran Turismo 3”. It features hairpins, banked corners, technically challenging concrete-lined sections, and a variety of road surfaces.
The facility can be driven freely, but it was also designed to support modders in their work: different surfaces, curbs, and types of corners can be tested there before being incorporated into their own track projects. It is assumed that the developers are currently working on a guide to modding racing tracks, which will contain example files and offer the option of individually customizing the test center as part of the learning process.
For those primarily looking for a new venue for racing — both offline and online — five fixed layouts have been provided, supplemented by the sixth “Playground” mode.
Each of these layouts has its own character: a short lap as a compact track, a large lap for high-speed driving, a skid pad for drifting, and a “Big Needle Route” that combines all of these elements and incorporates the aforementioned banked corners. This is rounded out by a more classic, contemporary “Racing Layout”.
The test facility was first unveiled in May at the SimRacing Expo in Charlotte and was available for brief testing there before being officially presented and released on the 9th.
The release follows the rollout of the alpha version of the virtual reality mode and the “GT Icons” DLC.
