PMR | Project Motor Racing’s Japanese DLC resurfaces under a new name

Although the name “GT500” has disappeared, the nine cars and the one track are back with a few minor changes.

At the end of last month, Project Motor Racing removed its paid “Japanese GT500” DLC pack from sale. All previous official posts on social media, as well as references on the website, were also deleted.

This step was taken without warning. A vague explanation followed one day later: “We believe this is the responsible course of action while discussions continue in good faith.” No further information was provided, although it is assumed that this concerns a dispute related to licensing.

On May 4, 2026, following a period of server maintenance for the sim-racing game developed by Straight4 Studios, the digital stores were updated.

According to the PlayStation Store, for example, the name of the content was changed from “Japanese GT500 DLC” to “Japanese Prototypes DLC”.

In particular, the suffixes “GT500” and “JGTC” were removed from the names of the individual cars (a complete list can be found below). They were replaced with “JP1” and “JP2”, respectively. Strangely, the 2002 Toyota Supra JP2 was changed to the 2003 specification.

Otherwise, it is assumed that all cars, liveries, and the Takimiya circuit (which was inspired by the venue in Okayama) remain unchanged and that the cars continue to be officially licensed.

GT500 is the designation of the top class of Japan’s Super GT motorsport championship, in which these cars compete. Before the name change in 2005, it was known as the “All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship”, or JGTC for short.

The DLC pack does not contain any official “Super GT” branding, and the class designations and abbreviations have now also been removed. At the time of publication, no statement from Straight4 Studios was available. It is still unclear when the content will be offered for sale again, but this is expected shortly.
