The BMW M Hybrid V8 race car has been further developed for the 2026 season – both for the FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA SportsCar Championship.
As the vehicle is used in both series, it is referred to as an LMDh vehicle in the FIA series and as a GTP vehicle in the American series.
iRacing will release this new “Evo” upgrade as part of the 2026 Season 3 update later this month and has already published the first images of the vehicle.
The most important changes this season concern the aerodynamics and the cooling system at the front of the vehicle. Highlights include a significantly more pronounced splitter and a redesigned grille. In addition, minor adjustments have been made to the lighting, including yellow accents.
In the ongoing IMSA championship, the vehicle has achieved three podium finishes so far this season.
In a recently published development blog, iRacing explained that this modification was part of its “efforts to modernize the GTP fleet.”
This vehicle update will be made available free of charge upon its release on June 9 to all users who already own the current version in iRacing. It will be joined by the G87-generation M2 Racing sister model.
